Digital data and maps are provided for download and use by planners. GIS files
are either ESRI Personal Geodatabase or Shapefile format and have been
compressed with WinZip. All maps include metadata. Some of these data and maps
are subject to periodic updates so please check back accordingly. The DCA
release date for each dataset is provided in parentheses following each listing
below.
Census Maps
Census TIGER/Line maps, including boundaries,

Regional maps of cultural resources are available for download by Regional
Development Centers in their secure ftp folders at
ftp://www.georgiaplanning.com. Archaeological sites, in general, are a
state-required 'natural and cultural resources' planning element according to
DCA Rules (Chapter 110-12-1-.04.). According to the Georgia Department of
Natural Resources' Rules for Environmental Planning Criteria (Chapter
391-3-16-.04.) certain archaeological sites are protected when within wetlands
and protected river corridors. Information for these maps were originally
compiled by the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF), located at the
University of Georgia Laboratory of Archaeology. Georgia Department of Natural
Resources- Historic Preservation Division, Office of the State Archaeologist
working with DCA has developed a generalized map of archaeological site
locations for general purpose community planning. These DCA derived maps
consists of those census blocks whick contained archaeological sites recorded
in the GASF. (6-14-2004)
