LUCA Technical Training

Beginning in September 2007, the Regional Development Centers, supported by the Census Bureau and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs will  begin offering LUCA Technical Training to local governments. At least one training will be offered monthly in each RDC region. Since the last day to register to participate in LUCA is December 31, 2007, the last classes are scheduled for January, 2008. However, remember that November 19, 2007 is the last day to register with a guarantee of 120 calendar days to complete a review. And April 4, 2008 is the cut-off date for postmarks on returning LUCA packages with a guarantee of processing by the US Census Bureau.

Invitations

The U.S. Census Bureau will be mailing invitations to local governments; please respond to their invitation to enroll for a class.

Class Format

There are three different LUCA Technical Training Workshops planned, each is described below. We’ve published here Web versions of the PowerPoint workshop materials so that you may preview each course, but be patient because some of the previews require large file downloads before viewing.

1) The standard U.S. Census Bureau LUCA Training Workshop will essentially be a day-long event running five to six hours per class, with periodic breaks. The class will consist of PowerPoint presentations and discussion, to be supplemented with live demonstrations of software and processing techniques that will be useful for a successful LUCA review. DCA has taken the standard U.S. Census Bureau LUCA Technical Training Workshop and divided it into two alternative workshops. These two workshops are offered the same day, the first in the morning and the second one in the afternoon. When you receive invitations from the U.S. Census Bureau it will mention only one course; register for that course and then attend the workshops described below according to your needs.

2) LUCA Training Workshop for Administrators- designed for local officials who administer the LUCA review for their local government, but defer the technical review to others on their staff, or to their Regional Development Center. This workshop runs from 10 am till Noon. Preview (7-Mb)

3) LUCA Training Workshop for Reviewers- designed for those who will conduct the actual review and update of address and map information. You would receive one of the following workshop formats depending on the LUCA Options selected by the class participants. This workshop runs from 1 pm until 4 pm.

  • Workshop covering all three LUCA participation options. Preview (75-Mb)
  • Workshop covering only LUCA participation Options 2 and 3. Preview (23-Mb)
